For the month of August it is Pet Dental Health Month! Ulysses Veterinary Clinic is passionate about dental care. Prevention is better than cure. 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have dental disease by the time they are 3 years old. There are many things we can do to help prevent gum disease;
1. Take your pet in for regular oral exams and cleaning
2. Brush your pets teeth everyday
3. Feed your dog quality dog food
4. Offer safe toys and treats for daily chewing
Gone unchecked dogs and cats with gum inflammation may be at a higher risk for heart, kidney and liver disease. Some symptoms of sever gum disease: Problem picking up food, bleeding or red gums, bad breath, loose teeth, head shyness, chewing on one side of the mouth, sneezing or nasal discharge (advanced gum disease in the upper teeth can destroy the bone between the nasal and oral cavity.
